Achill Island Pottery

The Achill Pottery was established in 1960 by Joe and Mary Colohan and has produced and sold pottery on Achill Island for 53 years. The tradition is now continued by their son Fergil and his wife Geraldine.  Most of the workers have been secondary school children, and many people have worked here over the years.

Achill Island Bogwood Sculptures

Liam Kelly is a native of Achill Island on the west coast of Ireland. Generations of his family have used “Turf” from the Bogs of Achill as fuel and now Liam works on the “Bogwood” to create pieces of art. His Bogwood Sculptures are simple since they are openly crafted by hand. Each piece is unique, the beauty and shape has not been altered only enhanced by careful craftsmanship. Liam is a “Direct Carver” working from memory while observing the subject.
